False Advertising?

As i was browsing fashion blogs and news today, i came across something that really caught my attention. It was an article about Louis Vuitton. When you think of LV, what comes to mind? Probably great quality, fit, and craftsmanship. Amongst that there's a certain exclusivity that comes with buying a luxury brand. I know that when i am investing in a luxury piece, i am looking for that special treatment. It's like buying a first class ticket on an airplane. You pay to stand in your special line, better comfier chairs, and real food on the plan.. not to mention your own bathroom. You're paying to feel special, in a sense.
That being said, the Advertising Standards Agency banned two Louis Vuitton ads in the U.K. today for misleading customers. The images show people who are supposedly Vuitton's craftsmen doing what looks like hand-stitching to their leather goods. However, Vuitton's bags and wallets and things are made primarily by machine, not by hand.

"The ASA said that although Louis Vuitton provided it with evidence that many 'hand-crafting techniques' were used in the production of the bag and wallet, it fell short of what was needed to prove the products were made by hand.

It stated: 'We noted that we had not seen documentation that detailed the entire production process for Louis Vuitton products or that showed the proportion of their manufacture that was carried out by hand or by machine."

What do you think about this?

This Weeks hits and Disses

Alright.. So i've decided once a week i'm going to do a weekly hit and diss list. I'll show you the Stars wearing it right..and those of them who unfortunately opted not to have a stylist. Here are this weeks hits:

First of all, Kate Beckinsale looks amazing in this beautiful goddess inspired gown. I love the sleeve detail and the silver detail on the dress. Plus her soft curls just make the look. My Favorite of the week!

Jennifer Lopez flaunts this gorgeous gown at the AmFar Gala Benefit. I'm loving the architectural ruffles on the skirt, and the color is definitely going with her Skin tone.

Honestly.. i don't know what to say about this look. Aly Michalka, Disney Star is definitely not hiding any McDonalds Cheeseburgers underneath that dress. That's for sure. The bold stripes and ever-so-tight fit of the dress is definitely a head turning combination. I like the hair and the shoes.. but something about the extreme tan-ness of her legs is throwing me off.

Here are my Disses:

Lily Allen... Did you sneak into your Grandmother's closet and steal this? Because it really ought to be a crime! The poorly ruched sleeves, to the vertical pleats down the front all scream "Wrong" to me. Not to mention the cleavage fighting for attention over those sleeves... Shouldn't cleavage always be the center of attention? Come on.. It's Hollywood.

Elizabeth Banks.. Let me first start off by saying.. I have NEVER been a mermaid silhouette fan. I'm quite the avid "Say Yes to the Dress" watcher.. and every time they try own those gowns i fast forward. ( Thank god for Tivo ) I think accentuating the hips is great.. but not when it looks like this. Having chosen a neutral color.. i am still overwhelmingly distracted by everything that is going on. The print, the neckline, and the skirt detail.. really?? At least her hair looked nice :)

So... this is Marion Cotillard.. Which i really don't know who she is.. but i do know one thing...I think i made this dress my first semester of Fashion School with a bolt of fabric and 1,000 pins. Black looks great on her, don't get me wrong.. but pin tuck after pin tuck really cheapens the look for me. So you take a beautiful strapless black gown, and add way too much fabric to it.. and don't know what to do, so you just tuck it all up and hope we don't notice. Maybe next time.. Or maybe make two dresses out of the same amount of fabric. Just a suggestion..I'm no designer :)

MIA calls out CIA

We all know M.I.A as an outspoken and very controversial singer, and once again she never ceases to amaze us. Last month when she released the explicit video "Born Free" it was banned within hours on You-Tube and other public websites due to graphic material. In case you haven't seen the movie, i recommend you look at it. See it HERE It's about a Red Head Genocide where they're capturing all of the Red Heads and one by one, graphically killing them with all details (and body parts) exposed on camera. Being known for these kind of stunts, it didn't surprise me..but the movie was very shocking. I probably wouldn't watch it again.

Recently she was quoted saying:
“Anybody who is called the government is right. And anybody who isn’t called the government is not right… And you know, all governments are connected to Google, and all governments can shift their search engines so only what they want you to see comes up… I want kids to be aware of this digital circumstance… Everyone on the Internet is like, “Oh my God, come and join Facebook!” They’re all so optimistic… and really, everyone is fucking you up behind the screens. And I don’t like that. It makes it difficult for me to interact with my fans knowing that. Google and Facebook were developed by the CIA, and when you’re on there, you have to know that.”

Conspiracy theorist? Or just telling the truth that no one else wants to hear?

Making Fashion Brighter

At the Met Ball held earlier this month in New York, singer and songwriter Katy Perry walked the red carpet in a gown made from silk chiffon and over 3000 glowing LEDs that changed color from blue to pink to yellow to green. Created by London-based firm CuteCircuit, Perry’s gown assured her a lot of publicity. But the coming integration of fashion and technology is about more than making a visual statement.
While the cream of New York’s high society sashayed past in couture creations by Valentino and Oscar de la Renta, the irony was not lost on the pop star, who was quoted as saying: “Fashion can be a little stuffy, so I wanted to lighten up.”

If this is where our technology is headed, i wouldn't mind seeing clothes having personal heaters in them as well. Maybe Lady Gaga's designer will come up with it.. There's nothing that lady couldn't ask for.

Tame yourself.

As we all know, Miley Cyrus has been making her rounds in the headlines our of new sources. From her new video "Can't be Tamed" to giving old men lap dances, this 17 year old Disney girl start-off, is turning bad. Haven't we seen this before? Lindsey Lohan, The Olsen twins, Hilary Duff? You would think she would know a bit better, then to take that path. ( Granted that i like Duff's DKNY line, and the Olsen twins sometimes look relatively fashionable.)
Her new music video, needless to say, is letting everyone know that she isn't the goody goody that she once portrayed on Hannah Montana, which has coincidentally just been canceled! Growing up and entering the real world, she is trying to make a statement to differentiate herself from every other rising star. For being so young, the video is a little promiscious in my opinion. Take a look and see for yourself. Is she growing up to fast?

On the bright side, she does happen to have some really cute clothes, and as my friend Sausha mentioned, AMAZING hair! Natural or not, her hair always looks amazing. Non-the-less.. I still don't like her, or her Corny accent. Sorry Sweetie.

Knock off's will Knock you out.

So you're a fashion loving college student and love designer things, but the problem is, is that you can't afford them. So what do you do? You go to China-town or online and buy 'Quality replicas.' You sport the bag or wallet around and get attention from all sorts of people. The people who don't know their brands well enough and think it's real, the fashion savvy who are laughing at you inside their heads because 'obviously it's a fake because the patterns don't line up'.. and then the police. Yes the police. Little do the mothers know, that when they're buying their daughters the fake Louis Vuitton bags, that they're committing a crime. It is fraud. Possessing these items while you are crossing borders, for example, is a serious issue and can turn into hefty fines and even jail time. CDs, DVDs, shoes, clothing, artwork, sports equipment, perfume, pharmaceuticals, jewelry and other accessories are all watched for very closely in some places. So think twice before grabbing that cheap ticket to Miami, soaking up the sun on a cruise ship and getting your favorite knock-off item in the Caribbean; your penalties could cost you 10-times the amount of your entire vacation
Last April, $1.4 million worth of fake Ed Hardy merchandise was on its way to New Jersey when it was intercepted at New York-JFK and in December, officials at Incheon International Airport in Korea snagged a group trying to take over $20 million worth of China-made imitation luxury goods into the US to sell; a record bust for that airport.

One of the most expensive related incidents unfolded in 2008, when Ebay was forced to pay $61 million to Louis Vuitton for not keeping a closer eye on the sale of counterfeit goods on its website. They also had to pay them $118,000 more in a separate incident last September. Thats not the only designer theyve been in trouble with either, as they were also ordered to pay Hermes $27,000 in 2008, and before that they ended up winning a battle with Tiffany & Co. in addition to another win last year against Polo Ralph Lauren Corp.

Even though you can usually find specific regulations for each country you plan on traveling to, its still always better to be safe than sorry (as moms always say) and just leave the fakes at homes. Being stylish may be important, but not when it means you could get into trouble with the law for it. Just make sure that next year for Valentines Day your sweetheart gets you the real thing instead of a cheap knock-off. Now that doesnt sound too bad..

The Cruise Collection

I've always been a fan of Galliano, and his latest collection has proved to be as crazy as he is. From pink to purple to.. well.. ruffles and fringe, he has really outdone himself. The line shows in Shanghai to promote the new Dior store opening there that month. China is the target for couture and craftsmen ship, so Galliano kept the line very French inspired.
Personally, I'd love to see the women who are parading themselves around in these garments. Not that they aren't wonderfully crafted by any means..but the women with enough confidence to pull off these looks. For example:

The models look a bit like human Barbies to me.. which doesn't surprise me. When you are the likes of Galliano, you could dress them up as beggers and people would still buy his clothes.. maybe that will be the new kick. Size zero models because they're homeless. not just starving themselves on purpose.

It's call.. what??

A press release about the Schitbag — a fanny pack with a shoulder strap — went around this week. "'Schitbag' IS THE NEW STATUS PURSE: Hands-Free Designer Belt Bag Fascinates Hollywood" the headline screamed. The release went on to describe the bag as "high-fashion," "sophisticated," body-contouring, and "providing sensuous elegance." There is nothing sensuous or elegant about its name, the origins of which the release failed to explain. Lauren Sherman notes on Fashionista, "I don’t care how it’s actually pronounced (assuming it’s skit-bag), it sounds like shitbag." Well, you know what they say, if it looks like it, swims like it, and is one letter away from it ... seriously now?

Gaga Gone??

So here's the deal. I'm not a huge celebrity gossip follower.. and i quite hate the people that go around and dedicate their lives to stalking them. I mean come on.. get your own life and stop caring more about other people's than your own. {pathetic} But every once in a while there are the rumors that really make you 'laugh out loud.' For instance, the other day my roommate and i were chatting while cooking dinner. She all of a sudden started laughing and said.. "Did you hear about Lady Gaga?" Of course my response was no.. and she proceeded to tell me that Lady Gaga had cut off her own leg "because it was cool." At first i laughed... thinking why the heck anyone would do that.. but then again.. It's Lady Gaga.. Who knows what crazy stunts she'll do.. Quickly forgetting the conversation because our food was ready, i went to go eat. The next day i was thinking about that my roommate had said and decided to research a little bit online.. As i thought.. it is untrue.. She didn't cut off her leg for attention...

A bit ridiculous i think.. How could something like that even get attention? I guess she is known for crazy acts.. but seriously guys.. lets cut off your leg just to get attention! wahoo.

Anyways. Love her.. and her crazy style. Why can't everyone be more accepting towards individuality?? It seems she is the only person that doesn't get trashed more than praised. You go girl!! Keep rocking it. xoxo

Fur haters, leather lovers?

As i was sitting in class today browsing around some blogs, an interesting ad popped up. It was for Peta, people for the ethical treatment of animals. I have a very close friend who was once a omnivore who has watched one of their videos and is now strictly a vegetarian. I have no problem with people who are veggies, it is your own choice, and if you like not having all that yummy protein, then thats up to you! But it posed a question in my mind. Being part of the fashion world, fur is a very controversial topic that gets brought up quite often. I personally don't own fur, but don't feel strongly about it either way.. but my question is: Do Vegetarians wear leather?? I know many veggies who tell me that they'll never eat another piece of meat their entire lives because the poor animals who are treated so terribly.. but yet they own a leather handbag, wallet, and boots? I guess i don't quite understand if you feel so strongly about not eating meat, how could you wear them as a handbag?

There is an overwhelming amount of fur on the runways for the fall/winter 2010 season especially during New York Fashion week. The designers paraded their girls down the runway with fur hoods, vests, cuffs, jackets, bags, everything you can think of. Big family names such as Michael Kors, Oscar de La Renta, Anna Sui, and Marc Jacobs are all on the fur bandwagon.

so what do you think? Is it wrong for Vegetarians to wear leather?
